Six Days of Sound - 1967

BG-99 Doors Poster 1967 with Chuch Berry, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver and Big Brother & the Holding Co. at Winterland News Year 1967-1968 by Bonnie MacLean called Six Days of Sound

Description

Billed as “the Fillmore Scene at Winterland,” this popular poster was designed by Bonnie MacLean for year-end shows wrapping up the year of the Summer of Love. This colorful piece was one of the most popular of the Fillmore series designed by Bonnie MacLean. MacLean was married to Bill Graham and stepped in to design many Fillmore posters after Wes Wilson was fired in the Spring of 1967. This poster was typical of her flowing style with a beautiful woman offering both peace and love in the form of mistletoe.

On December 24, the Doors performed "Light My Fire" and "Moonlight Drive" live for The Jonathan Winters Show. Their performance was taped for later broadcast. During these Winterland shows a few days later, the band stopped performing to watch themselves on The Jonathan Winters Show on a TV set wheeled onto the stage.

Chuck Berry released an album in 1967 called Live at the Fillmore Auditorium where he used Steve Miller, then known as the Miller Blues Band, as his backing group. Berry played the Fillmore in both June and then again in August, when the recording was made. At these shows Berry was playing a lot of Chicago-style blues which, ironically, was absorbed fully by Steve Miller who was now backing one of the Masters of that style.
