Grateful Dead Exhibition Oct 12-Dec 23

Original concert poster by Rick Griffin, January 1969. The Dead liked this artwork so much they asked Griffin to reconfigure the design to use for the cover of their third album, Aoxomoxoa. The seminal Live/Dead recordings of  "The Eleven" and "Turn On Your Love Light" were from the January 26, 1969 show at the Avalon Ballroom, advertised on this poster.

Vintage Grateful Dead Poster Exhibition and Sale now through December 23

The Bahr Gallery will showcase vintage Grateful Dead posters in an exhibition running through December 23. Grateful Dead posters from 1966-1987 will be displayed with emphasis on pre-1971 rare works. Included in the exhibition are the Grateful Dead at the Boston Tea Party on New Year's Eve 1969, the original Aoxomoxoa poster, a rare first printing Skeleton and Roses from 1966, the banned Radio City poster from 1980, a 1971 Skull and Roses Tour Blank and many more rare and iconic pieces.

Bahr Gallery is your source for premium, rare, vintage and hard-to-find rock concert posters (emphasis on the late 1960s psychedelic era), beautifully framed, archivally mounted, and behind nearly-invisible Museum Glass. If you are looking for a special or unique gift - or just a special addition to your home or office walls - the Bahr is the place to find it. In addition to more than 40 Grateful Dead posters we have another 110 pieces framed and hanging on our walls or waiting to be shown to you from our art closets. Historic and often stunning pieces feature bands and artists including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin & Big Brother, The Doors, The Who, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and many more.

With a handful of exceptions, Bahr Gallery pieces are all first-edition posters - frequently printed before the concerts to sell tickets - the real thing, the good stuff. If you want the best, come find it at The Bahr. Of course the Exhibition is free of charge so come on by and indulge yourself in our lengthy histories written up on each piece to understand it in context.  Get a feel for what we do by checking out this recent article on Bahr Gallery in Newsday HERE.

“We are curating the visual experience for admirers of this art, the music, and its special time in history, said gallery owner and curator Ted Bahr. “It’s time for these 50-year-old works of art – already highly prized by collectors and connoisseurs of the period – to be properly displayed in a beautiful, elegant setting as they seek new homes.”
