This handbill was sent out to members of the Grateful Dead Fan Club in April of 1967, and it lists the band members’ birthdays, vital statistics, and zodiac signs! The imagery for this oversized handbill was designed by Alan “Gut” Terk, a well-known member of the Hells Angels and later manager of Blue Cheer.
This piece was originally included with two 8″ x 10″ publicity photographs, and a four page mimeographed newsletter, The Olompali Sunday Times, and sent to members of the Grateful Dead Fan Club. Initial membership of the Fan Club was just 150 fans according to Dennis McNally so you can imagine how many of these were printed and then guess how many still exist in pretty good shape like this one…answer: Not Many!
